Kamakura~鎌倉

We walked around Kamakura and visited the Tsurugaoka Hachiman shrine and the Great Buddha.

今日は鎌倉散策。鶴岡八幡宮、大仏へ。

駐輪場自体が面白い光景だったようです。

Can I just insert my two cents as an American? Long have Americans wondered what the secret to eternal youth is. Obviously, those Americans have never been to Japan. I was amazed and impressed (and by the end, exhausted) by the amount of walking we did in Japan. I’m not complaining by any means, but just like my life here in Singapore entails way more walking than in the States, Japan too is a pedestrian country. After observing men and women in their 70s and up walking and biking tremendous distances as part of their daily routine, I now know the Japanese secret to eternal youth. It’s impossible to live that lifestyle and NOT be healthy.

また、日本人はこんなにも歩く習慣があるのか、と感心したそうです。

街中で７０代以上と思われる人たちもが

日常生活の中で歩いたり、自転車を利用している事に驚き

日本人が若く見える秘訣にちがいない、と言っています。

滞在中はものすごく歩いてくたびれたそうです。

実は夫と私は

車生活中心の彼らの事を心配して

極力歩く事を避け、

タクシーや車を利用して移動したのですが

それでも、かなり歩いた、という感想でした。

日頃あまり歩かない私ですら

そんなに歩いたとは思えない距離だったのですが・・

この感想は日本を去ってから聞いたので

え〜、そうだったの！と驚きました。

さていよいよ鶴岡八幡宮参拝です。

松がかかった太鼓橋から見る鶴岡八幡宮。これもきれいな一枚です。

We were fortunate enough to see a wedding ceremony at Maidono (Statge).

タイミングよく舞殿で結婚式が執り行われるところでした。

This scene might be unique for people from other countries.

次は大仏拝観です。

We went to see the Great Buddha.

この写真本当にきれいに撮れていて、私も大好きな写真です。

This was so beautiful and tranquil. The backdrop of the crystalline blue sky against the serene face of The Buddha was a sight to see. I was amazed that we could go inside this statue. The sun had shone all day on the bronze surface, and the inside emanated with warmth. I am using my ticket for this place as a bookmark in my daily planner. Every day I feel I get a little tranquility from the memory of this place.

この日はとてもお天気が良くきれいな青空でした。そして穏やかな大仏様の顔。

大仏の胎内拝観は彼らには珍しい体験だったようです・・

アマンダはその静寂さを思い出しながら

この大仏の拝観チケットをしおりに使ってくれているそうです。

We enjoyed breakfast at PINY, a local bakery. It was buffet. 

地元で人気のパン屋さん・パイニイで食べたビュッフェの朝食はとても喜ばれました。
