Japanese house~日本の家

My husband and I planned to offer the whole upstairs for them to use. We used downstairs.
Entry ways in Japanese houses are quite different from American's ones; I was interested in how they felt about Japanese houses?

アマンダ一家に２階を自由に使ってもらう事にして、私達は１階を使う事にしました。
玄関をはじめ全く違う日本の家について，どんな感想を持ったのでしょうか？

Amanda said-
We absolutely loved the time we spent in Nozomi and Tetsuji’s house. Every detail – from the sliding doors, to the cabinetry, made the house both beautiful and efficient. The rooms we stayed in were cozy and beautiful. Nozomi and Tetsuji went out of their way to make us feel at home. My mom commented that Nozomi’s little touches of decoration were everywhere! I find it intriguingly fitting that Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural style was so popular in Japan. You can see the elements of beauty within simplicity and form and function within elegance in this home.

日本の家は狭いスペースを生かして上手に使う工夫がされている事が多いので
-例えばドアでなくて、下のような引き戸とか、収納スペースとか効率的できれい（改装したこともあって）に見えたようです。また、日本のベッドは狭かったと思いますが居心地が良かったと言ってくれたので一安心しました。部屋の飾り付けとか苦手の私ですが、ちょこっと花を飾ったりした事も目に留めてほめてくれました。
日本の住宅はシンプルだけれど美しく、優雅だけれど機能的だと褒めてくれています。

・・が、我が家は至って普通の住宅です（笑）
でも、この一週間のために大掃除をした甲斐があったというものです。

鎌倉市の曜日ごとの細かいゴミの分別や
我が家で使っているエネファームが印象的だったようです。
バッファローでのゴミ出しは分別もほとんどなくて楽でした。


Japanese bathrooms must be very unique and mysterious for them! There is a operation panel.

さて、何よりも不思議だったのは日本のトイレにちがいありません。
トイレの壁にはこのような操作パネルがついています。

It was hard for me to explain the Princess Sound toilet function in public restrooms to them. 

デパート等の女性用トイレには ”音姫” という流れる音のボタンもあり、この説明もむずかしかったのですが、その命名にも盛り上がりました！

Amanda said-
Japanese toilets are amazing. Someone who has never seen one will think I’m being sarcastic, but I’m not. There are so many buttons on them, that even with Tetsuji’s gracious labeling in English, I was still afraid to try some of them. I will say that the seat warmer has ruined me forever. I will need one of these for when I return to Buffalo. The Princess Flush is hysterical. Ladies, you know how we sometimes flush in a public restroom to make a camouflaging noise while we, you know? Well, Japanese designers understand that we ladies – we princesses – have this modesty concern. So they added a button that makes a flushing sound when you push it. I’m not making this up. 

日本のトイレは本当にすごい、そのボタンの数の多さ、便器が暖かいことなど、
びっくりしていたし、かなりおもしろい体験だったようです。

ウオシュレット愛用者の夫が英語訳のラベルを貼付けておいたので
興味津々で見ていましたが、使って見る勇気はなかったようです（笑）

また、”音姫” については音を聞かれたくない、という女性への配慮まで取り入れた日本のトイレメーカーに賛辞を贈ってくれました。
